Using Fender HP79VR on a Tow Dolly with Large Tires
Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/24/2025 >
Question:
I purchased these fenders for my tow dolly based on one of the customers pictures. I am wondering how he mounted the fenders to his tow dolly. Any help would be appreciated. On the tow dolly there are two mounting holes but the backing plate doesn’t come down far enough for the two holes. See attached pictures. Thanks.

Hi Fred,
Great question! I was able to find the customer you were referring to who used the fender part # HP79VR on their tow dolly. It looks like their tires are a bit smaller than the Transeagle tires you're using.
There should be a little extra room on the fender bracket, but your tires do appear wider and taller than the typical tow dolly tires. From the photo, it looks like the tire might be very close to the bracket — it's a little hard to tell for sure. Ideally, you want at least a finger's width of clearance between the bracket and the tire tread.
If you were to switch to narrower tires, the fender would likely fit without any issues. Otherwise, you might need to modify the bracket slightly to make it work with your current setup.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Fred, Did you find a way to mount the fenders on your tow dolly with the current tires, or did you decide to switch to narrower ones? I'm asking because your experience could really help others facing a similar challenge.
