Recommended 5th Wheel Rail Kit for a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/19/2025

Question:

Will this item fit my 2009 Silverado 2500hd w/6.5 foot bed? and what is the tow rating on these? Also I see bed rails on here for $450, why such a price difference? is it because of the drilling holes vs using factory holes in frame or is there more to it? Thanks Steve

Hey Steve, that is correct. The reason some rails are much more expensive is because the bracket kit with those rails are custom so there is no drilling required, making the whole experience smoother.

The Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rail Kit # C16200 does fit your 2009 Chevy Silverado, but will require a lot of drilling into the frame.

I'd suggest going with the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails # C16204 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit for Chevy/GMC # C16418.

This whole kit together is only about 100 bucks more than the universal kit, and I think not having to drill nearly as much is worth every penny.

Let me know below if there is anything else I can do to help!

Hey Steve, did you decide to go with the custom bracket kit for your Silverado? I'm curious if the ease of installation made a difference for you. Your experience could really help others considering their options!
