Should the Reese Goose Box Be Used on a Short Bed Truck

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 04/07/2025

Question:

Background: We own a 2022 F350 SD 6.7 SRW short bed. Just purchased a 2025 Grand Design Reflection 367BHS. Since our truck did not come with any preparation, we chose to install the BandW turnover ball. We are also planning, at this time, to go with a Reese Goose-box 20k. Question: Looking to proactively address any turning issues we may see with the 5th wheel and the short bed truck. We have found the 5inch Offset Ball for Hide-A-Goose Goose-neck Trailer Hitchesinch Part Number: 19308. Are there any other solutions goose-neck extenders etc that you may be able to suggest to us? Appreciate any feedback you may have for us.

Hey Volker congrats on the new trailer! Instead of using the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR I actually recommend going with the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216.

This will bolt onto your exisiting pin box rather than replace it, already includes a 7 1/2" offset which will give you 2 1/2" more of clearance than # 19308, and has the same 20,000 lb capacity as the Goose Box.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Volker, how did things go with the Convert-A-Ball cushioned adapter on your F350 and Reflection setup? Did the extra offset give you the turning clearance you were hoping for? Your update could make it easier for others towing with a short bed truck.
