Can Heavier Leaf Springs for a Axle on 2020 Forest River East to West 2800KBH Be Used?

Updated 10/22/2025 | Published 04/05/2025

Question:

Our 2020 East to West 2800KBH is sagging on the ditch side. All of the appliances are on that side. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. It has about 38,000 miles on it. When I added the Moryde equalizers I struggled to get that side together. The center bolt on the original equalizer ripped out last fall. I need to replace the springs and would like to know if I can go to these 6 leaf springs or do I need to upgrade the axles to something heavier. I realize all 4 springs will need to be done. I try to keep most of the weight of extra equipment in the truck bed. We travel Maine to Utah every spring and Nova Scotia in the fall. I need to do something. Thank you. Bob

Hey Bob, thanks for dropping by! So yeah, you can absolutely upgrade your current leaf springs to a 6 spring setup like the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles # e27SR.

The only thing you're going to need to make sure is that these springs are the same size as your current ones. The big measurement is the eye to eye unloaded measurement. These are 26" long eye to eye unloaded, so if your current springs are at 26" or a bit longer then you're good.

Springs usually flatten over time so it wouldn't be super unusual to see your original springs measure a bit longer than 26".

If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Bob, how did things go with the 6-leaf springs on your East to West trailer? Did the 26-inch length end up matching your old springs? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same sagging issue.
