Looking For Stake Pocket Tie Down For 1974 Jeep TJ With Non-Standard Stake Pockets

Updated 10/28/2025 | Published 03/30/2025

Question:

Hello! I have a 74 Jeep J20 and am looking for anchors that fit in the stake pockets. Their dimensions are about 1 1/4 x 2 5/64. I tried the Freedom cargo Cleats, and they would slip off of the bed lip! Therefore, Im pretty limited with what I can use. Do you sell any anchors that will fit in my stake pockets? Thank you!

Hello again, James. So all of the stake pocket tie downs we offer are the standard size which is roughly 2"x4". Sounds like the pockets on your Jeep are not standard size so this makes things tricky.

The only thing I can think of are the CargoSmart Stake Pocket Tie-Down Anchors # 348821. I have heard of these working on non-standard stake pockets before. The only thing is they have a 200 lb working load limit so you need to be careful not to overload them.

The video I linked below shows them in more detail. Feel free to leave a comment or reply below and I am happy to get back to you.

Hey James, did the CargoSmart stake pocket anchors end up fitting your Jeep J20’s smaller stake pockets? Knowing how they worked could really help others with older trucks that have non-standard pocket sizes.

Jesse, I had to buy a set I found on e-bay that fits stake pockets from back in the days when they were the same size across all manufacturers. Unfortunately, they were made in China, but no one in the U.S. makes these anymore. @JesseM

@JamesM Well I'm glad to hear you found something that works at least! Even if they aren't made here in the USA. Feel free to come back anytime you need anything!
