What Would Cause Proportional Brake Controller to Apply Brakes Under Acceleration

Question:
I recently installed the tekonsha prodigy p2 on my 2007 Chevy Silverado and lately seem to be having issues. After installation everything worked perfectly. Then I started noticing it applying brakes under acceleration and not braking. I thought this may be cause by the uphill angle I park on overnight. I just assumed when I started my truck it ran a calibration for the angle it was at and so when it was level it thought it was lunging under breaking. So this issue kind of fixed it self. It still does it but not nearly as bad, only like a .4 on the gain which may be normal I don’t know. But now it doesn’t show nc when the trailer isn’t connected and still tries to apply the brakes when I’m not towing. As you know these trucks are pre wired and I followed your video for installation. Any ideas?

Hey Philippe, what you are experiencing is a short between the 12 volt power wire (black) and the stoplight circuit (red) wire. This is causing the controller to think that you are applying the brakes and to look for deceleration and apply the trailer brakes. So check the condition of those two wires and let me know what you find but also fix as needed.

Ok, I checked the wires for the controller with the controller unplugged and sure enough the red wire had 12 volts. Which meant the blue with white stripe wire was sending constant power which I’m not sure whey because everything with the trucks brake lights work properly. I tested the factory orange wire for the third brake light and it functioned properly so I wired the red wire to that on and problem solved. Thanks for the help
