What Trailer Hitch Will Fit The 1985 Chevy Caprice And Can It Be Used To Tow?

searching for a hitch of 2in receiver, but the search showing the 1 1/4.. only,, the question is,, the 1 1/4 can will towing a car, ?? I have 1985 Caprice wagon, my plan is to towing a 1980 caprice, Im moving out of california..

Hello, thanks for getting in touch. There is only one custom fit hitch available for the 1985 Chevy Caprice, the Curt # C12009. This has a 1-1/4" receiver and a 3,500 lb towing capacity. There is no 2" hitch made for this vehicle. Technically this 1-1/4" hitch can be used to tow, as long as the load remains under 3,500 lbs.
Looking up the 1980 Chevy Caprice online, it looks like it has a base curb weight of about 3,400 lbs. So the combined weight of the vehicle, plus whatever trailer you are using, is going to be too heavy to be towed by an 1985 Caprice.
These 1-1/4" receivers are only meant for light duty towing, or hitch mounted accessories like bike racks.
