Question:
On the bright way breakaway box it has built in leds lights to tell the user that the trailer lights are working, but it only has three wires coming out of the box. How do I set the box up to test all the lights as well as the brakes?

Hello Jeff,
Great question! The Bright Way breakaway box has three wires: black or Red (12V power from the trailer battery), blue (trailer brake wire), and white (ground). Its built-in LED indicators primarily monitor the breakaway battery and brake circuit, not the trailer’s running lights, turn signals, or brake lights. To test the brakes, ensure the battery is charged, pull the breakaway switch pin, and try to move the trailer if the brakes lock up, then they are working.
To test all your trailer lights, you'll need a separate method since the breakaway system only handles emergency braking. You can use a Hook Probe Circuit Tester #PTW2993, plug the trailer into your tow vehicle, or manually apply 12V to each circuit with a power probe or test light at the 7-way plug.
What kind of trailer are you working on?
