Does Roadactive System Lift Rear Suspension of 2024 Chevy Colorado

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/13/2025

Question:

Good day I am looking for a kit that can reduce a 2inch SQUAT on my Chevy Colorado Trail Boss 4x4. I tow a 20foot Travel Trailer GVWR: 4,400 Lb Tongue Wight 400 lb I find this Kit ID: 4617-T for the 2024 Colorado. QUESTIONS: 1. Will this kit raise the Rear Suspension? 2. Will the Weight Distribution Hitch still be needed after installing the Kit ID: 4617-T ?? Thank you

Hey Benjamin, the Roadactive Suspension Kit part # RAS4617 that you referenced will not raise the rear suspension of the truck when not towing. If you cranked the spring tension down I am sure you could get it to lift the suspension a little bit but in general it's not a lift and when setup properly it does not change the vehicle height.

With the RAS kit installed a weight distribution system is probably a little less "needed" but suspension enhancement doesn't take the place of a WD system. The suspension enhancement will reduce the suspension sag which is nice but what a WD system does is reduce the sag by distributing some of the trailer tongue weight up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which has the bonus function of improving handling and braking.

So for most people I would say the RAS kit is enough but if you wanted the best towing experience the WD system will be what you'd want as well. What's your trailer's tongue weight?

Hey Benjamin, how did things go with the RoadActive Suspension kit on your Colorado Trail Boss? Did it help reduce the squat when towing your travel trailer? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar tow rig.
