Recommended Replacement Brake Controller for a 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Question:
I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado 2500 Hd. The service trailer brake system has been on for a couple of years. I recently purchased a camper trailer and now have a need for the brakes. After much tinkering and research I’m finding that my best option is to replace with an after market system. However the only info I can find is for units without the factory integrated system. All of those have a nice little pre labeled harness tucked up under the dash. Upon inspection, I found my wires plug into the in dash factory controller. These wires are not the same gauge or color in those instructions. Is there another procedure for bypassing the factory system in this model year Chevy. Any guidance is much appreciated. ??

Hey Jason, first of all congrats on the new trailer! What did you land on? As far as replacing the brake controller goes, you will be fine to use the included wiring harness Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 even though the wires are different sizes and colors. The wiring run to the dash that you found is what the manufacturer put there for this reason.
The colors being different likely does not matter because they could've just used whatever wiring they had lying around, but it'd never hurt to check and make sure what the functions of those wires are. I've also dropped an install video on this page that shows this brake controller being installed on a 2012 Silverado for you to check out.
If you need anything else, feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hey Jason, how did things go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller on your Silverado? Did the wiring match up once you checked the functions of each wire? Your update could make it easier for the next person working through the same setup.
