Will New Reese Round Bars Fit Older Pro Series WDS Hitch Head

Updated 02/18/2025 | Published 01/29/2025

Question:

Hi, I bought a hitch back in 2017, with 750 bars. I want to upgrade to 1000 bars or 1150 in this case. I want to make sure these bars will fit my existing hitch head. New bars: Replacement Chain Hangers for Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution System - Qty 1, Part Number: RP24KR Existing hitch: Pro Series Weight Distribution System w/ Friction Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW, 750 lbs TW Order number: 105081936, Placed: 03/19/2017 Thanks. Hey Greg, thanks for providing all that info it really makes everything much easier! So I did a little digging around, and it does look like yes the Replacement Chain Hangers for Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution System # RP24KR will work great. The head used # PS58442 is the same head for both systems.

How did you like the old system? I've heard good things but I haven't personally used one yet. In any case, if there is anything else I can help you with, feel free to drop a comment and let me know!

Hi Bryce. It appears from the photo on the website, and the video, that these bars do not have any holes at the end used to attach the chain links. My setup is similar to that show in "Reese Weight Distribution System w/ Shank - Trunion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW, Part Number: RP66542". But my bars are straight, and not kinked as seen in the above-noted system (not counting the 90-deg elbow). Perhaps REESE has changed things up? Greg B P.S. I would have added photos but didn't see how.

@GregB Gotcha I see the issue. So it doesn't look like those higher rated bars are offered for the chain hanger style WDS but what you could do is still use those bars # RP24KR but swap the frame brackets from the chain hanger style to the Replacement Trailer Frame Bracket Kit for Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution Systems # RP94ZR. This would be the correct frame brackets that would work with those bars. Since it's kinda pricey to swap all that out I'd honestly just recommend getting an entirely new setup for just a bit more, The Blue Ox TrackPro # BLU27FR is a great choice that isn't hard on the wallet, has a nice 1.5k tongue weight capacity, and includes a pre-installed 2 5/16" ball and shank. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

@BryceD Thanks for the info. For my current trip I'll just stick with what I have. I'll then research a bit more and most likely buy a new system, such as the Blue Ox you suggsted. Thanks for all your help! Greg
