Can The Go Power Overlander Solar Panels Be Glued To The Roof?

Updated 11/04/2025 | Published 01/26/2025

Question:

I have a 2025 Tiffin Byway 33FL motor home that is prewired for Go Power solar. The roof is very flat. I am considering one or more 200 watt panels, mostly to keep the batteries charged when the RV is not in use no boondocking is planned. Can I flush mount the Overlander solar panels with silicone glue? Im reluctant to start drilling multiple holes in the roof for multiple panels. I understand Go Power has a Flex panel for curved surfaces, but the kits are significantly more expensive.

Hello Rege, thanks for reaching out. Adding solar panels is a great way to keep your batteries charged when the RV is not in use. The Go Power Overlander panels can be flush mounted, but you do need to use the included hardware which does involve drilling holes in the roof. Silicone glue by itself is not enough to properly secure the panels so I really can't recommend doing it that way. I know drilling into the roof can be a bit scary but as long as it is done carefully, and the holes are properly sealed you will be good to go.

Hey Rege, how did things go with mounting the Go Power Overlander panels on your Tiffin Byway? Were you able to get them secured the way you wanted? Your update could make it easier for others trying to avoid extra roof holes.

@JesseM Hi Jesse. Things didnt turn out the way I planned. When I asked the question the Byway was on order/being built. As it turns out I did not take ownership of the Byway and purchased a Tiffin Red off the dealer lot that had a factory installed single 200 watt panel. It was not flush mounted. The one panel is doing a great job keeping the six 6 volt house batteries topped off at 100% while in outside storage.

@RegeD Thanks for the update, Rege! Sounds like everything worked out well in the end. The factory solar is definitely a time saver. It's great to hear the factory 200-watt panel is doing such a solid job maintaining your batteries — that’s impressive performance for storage!
