Question:
Quick fist clamps: I want to use four of these clamps to clamp down pvc pipe 11/2 by 10 feet on my car rack to haul my fly rods to go fishing. Total wt. about 20 pounds. Do you think these clamps would stay shut at highway speed? I would be using 2 pipes with 2 clamps on front bar of rack and 2 clamps on back bar. Thank for time and thoughts on this idea.

Hello Dale,
Yes, the Quick Fist Original Clamps - 1" to 2-1/4" Inner Diameter - Rubber - 25 lbs Each - Qty 4 # QF89FR will work for what you are trying to do just as long as the PVC pipe is between 1" to 2.25" in diameter. These clamps can handle up to 50 pounds per pair, so the 20 pounds will not be an issue, and you are good to go as far as driving on the highway. I am not sure what kind of rack system you are referring to, so just as long as you have a mounting area of 2-1/2" x 3/4" and secure them with a #10 bolt or screw (sold separately) then these will work.
If you are referring to a roof rack system I do have a different option for you to check out, the Rhino-Rack Fishing Rod Carrier - Locking - 5 Fishing Rods # RR573F, this would mount to a roof rack system with round, square, aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars. However, it would not work with the PVC pipe. With how much I spent on my last rod and reel, I definitely see why you would want to put them in the PVC for extra protection.
Whatever you decide to go with, I hope you catch some GIANTS!!
