Should My Slide-Out Motor Flange Have Screws or Bolts to Hold it in Place?

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/08/2024

Question:

I have a 2013 Keystone cougar. The slideout motor has been loose, and is disengaged from the rod it turns. Are there supposed to be bolts/set screws in the holes around the mounting flange?

Hello Ed,

There is not a data base that I can reference to see how the 2013 Keystone Cougar was put together, but typically the holes around the mounting flange are there for bolts or screws to hold it all in place, which explains why it is not staying engaged. Here's what you can do to fix the issue:

- Check the Flange: If the holes are threaded they definitely need bolts or screws. Over time, they can loosen and fall out due from the vibrations from driving.

- Inspect the Rod Connection: The rod that the motor turns should also be secured with some kind of fastener, I would make sure nothing is missing from there, and because it hasn't had a secure connection inspect for any kind of damage.

- Align Everything: Before you secure everything back in place, double check to make sure that everything is aligned properly.

- Use the Right Hardware: Since it sounds like you are missing hardware, you will want to find hardware that is going to fit nice and snug. If you are unsure what to use, you might be able to find this information in your Keystone manual.

- Keep it Tight: To ensure you do not have this issue in the future, it is recommended to check the bolts or screws in the future and tighten as needed.

Hey Ed, how did things go after you checked the flange and rod connection on your Cougar’s slide-out motor? Were you able to secure it with the right bolts or screws? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with a loose motor setup.
