Will a Front Hitch Interfere with Collision Sensors on a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/06/2024

Question:

We have a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ and are planning on installing a front hitch. I have been told that a front hitch can interfere with the airbag sensors and that the airbags will not inflate in an accident. We plan on using our hitch with a carrier rack for storing items when we are camping. We don’t want to compromise our safety and hope this will not be an issue. Thank you for your help.

Hey Alicia,

Safety is definitely an important factor in any kind of towing or hitch receiver situation so I certainly see where you're coming from. The great news I have for you is that the Curt Front Hitch # C31088 will not compromise your airbag sensors on your 2020 Silverado 1500, so you can rest assured that in a collision that feature will still work.

Hey Alicia, how did things go with the Curt front hitch on your Silverado 1500? Did it work well with your carrier rack during your camping trips? Your update could make it easier for others with the same setup.
