Hey Bill,

The 36" cable measurement for the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve # 34466N4AB36GM is taken from the top of the waste valve to the top of the silver piece that the handle connects to.

Hi Jon, In the following question: How is the length of the cable measured for the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve. Is the cable measured from the end of the valve enclosure to the handle? You replied: The 36" cable measurement for the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve # 34466N4AB36GM is taken from the top of the waste valve to the top of the silver piece that the handle connects to. But I do not know what you mean by the measurement being taken from the top of the valve, what is the top of the valve. I guess the measurement is not end to end. If by top you mean where the cable starts from the body of the valve then I can use a 36 inch cable. If the top is the end of the valve body then I will have to use the 48 inch. I guess I just need to know only the length of the cable. Thanks for your input! Jim

@JimC the length is just the length of the cable and nothing else.

@JamesonC Hello James. This existing discussion applies to a situation i am trying to resolve. My 2018 2455BHS Winnebago Minnie Winne Bristol 3" black water dump valve is stuck open. I know the cable is frozen/twisted and the whole valve will need to be replaced. For whatever reason(s), Winnebago used the 72" length cable for the black water dump valve actuation. On my 2018 Minnie Winnie, the distance between the black dump valve top and the trailer frame is 28". The result is a cable way to long flopping around underneath the camper. In line to your discussion with Jim C. here, my question pertains to choosing a more better sized cable for the 2018 Minnie Winnie. I have measured the distance from the top of the current valve (where top to me is the rectangular "neck" of the valve where the cable attaches. The distance from that point to where the cable pull handle sleeve passes through the trailer is 28". Questions: 1. how many inches need to be allowed to compensate for the valve travel when opening and closing the valve? I read somewhere the distance was 7" but not sure if that was for Bristol or Valterra. Does this even matter? 2. Not knowing the answer to question 1 (yet), I THINK a 48" cable/valve would suffice for the repair without leaving too much extra cable to flop around and bind (like the 72"). 3. Not knowing the answer to question 1, it is possible a 36" cable/valve would work with just a little left over cable length and almost 0 cable to flop around in the underbelly. May I ask for your advice here? Can you answer question 1 and perhaps pull from your experience to help me choose the best length cable--36" or 48"? Thanks, John T. Georgetown, Texas
