Should RV Black Water Tank Valve Close All the Way

Question:
I just removed a Bristol black tank valve. With the gate in the closed position, I can see daylight through the gaps between the gate and the housing. Question 1: Is this normal and if so what stops the leak? Question 2: Is the Valterra valve designed the same way?

Hey Wade, if you can see light through the opening of the valve with it in the "closed" position that would indicate it's not in good shape and in need of being replaced. Valterra valves like the part # T68C close all the way which is probably what your did when it was new. You might see if you can push the valve a little harder to see if will close further.

Hey Wade, did pushing the valve a bit harder help it close all the way and stop the light from showing through? Knowing how that worked out could help others checking their black tank valves for the same issue.
