Is 30 Amp Male RV Power Cord Plug Watertight

Updated 12/30/2025 | Published 10/08/2024

Question:

I need a replacement male plug where the power cord from my RV plugs into the receptacle at the campsite. I have one now, but it is not watertight. The CAM55245 looks like it will work, but I want to make sure that it is watertight and rated for outdoor use. Can you please confirm this for me. Thanks.

Hello Scott,

The 30 amp male Power Grip Replacement RV Power Cord Plug # CAM55245 is rated for outdoor use, but is not watertight. That's actually going to be true of each of these plugs though, as there just isn't a way to ensure no water gets into them because they screw together, so there's always going to be a possibility for water to get in. So while the # CAM55245 will be perfectly fine in the rain, it just won't be watertight.

Hey Scott, how did the Power Grip replacement plug work out on your RV cord? Was it able to hold up well in wet weather even though it’s not fully watertight? Your feedback could help others looking for a similar outdoor-rated option.

I have used the Power Grip plug for over a year of full-time camping. It has been out in the rain and all weather conditions including winter camping in Georgia, and I have had no issues with it.
