Can The Draw-Tite Activator IV Be Installed On A 1995 Ram 1500

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/06/2024

Question:

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500. Under the dash there is an 8 wire male plug. I’d like it to be connected to a Tekonsha 8507120. I’ve attached a picture to help it be identified to determine what I need to do to connect it.

Hello Adam, thanks for reaching out. Does your 1995 Ram 1500 have the factory tow package with the 7-way? If so, the brake control port should be present under the dash. My concern is the plug in your picture does not appear to be a match to the other Ram brake control ports we have seen. The plug should look like the one in the image below and yours does not appear to be a match.

Are there any other plugs up under the dash? If you have the tow package the plug should be there, and it should be identical to the one pictured below. If you can find it, you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3020-P to install the Draw-Tite Activator IV Trailer Brake Controller # 5504. If the plug is not present, the only option will be to hardwire the controller.

Hey Adam, what ended up happening with the brake controller wiring on your Ram 1500? Were you able to find the correct plug under the dash or did you go with the hardwire option? Your update could make it easier for the next person working on the same setup.
