Recommended Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2024 Ford F-250 w/ the Puck System

Updated 10/01/2024 | Published 09/21/2024

Question:

I have a 2024 Ford F-250 4x4 with 6-3/4 ft. bed, and having Ford add the 5th wheel hitch prep package. Still deciding on a 5th wheel camper but looked up my maximum loaded trailer weight as 16,300 lbs. and maximum cargo weight of 2,263 lbs., so I know the camper weight limitations. Have been looking at hitches on your site. I like the “Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Ford Super Duty Prep Package - 18K”. Very good reviews but some reporting an issue with re-hitching the camper if the truck and camper are not in-line truck and camper at an angle to one another. Would you have any comment if this is likely an “operator error” or adjustment issue, or something else? It would not seem to be a good design if the camper and truck had to be in-line. Any insight appreciated. Best regards.

Sounds like operator error or just a complete lack of knowledge going into a purchase. In order to reconnect your F-250 to your 5th wheel trailer you have to approach from the same angle you disconnect from. You can't manually move the hitch head on the Demco Hijacker item # DM8550024. It would take an extreme amount of force to move the head without the trailer's weight pushing it.

The reason for this is so you will be able to connect at the same angle you disconnected from the trailer so that head won't easily move as you connect your trailer making it more difficult to align.

The Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider item # DM8550024 has been confirmed to fit the Ford puck system.

Thank you for the info Jarred. Are you able to comment on why you apparently do not carry the Pullrite Superglide Hitch? Thanks, Elliott
