Are There Puck System Trim Rings That Accommodate A BedRug Bed Liner

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/16/2024

Question:

What is the best way to install the bedrug on a 2024 GMC 3500 so that it looks around the gooseneck / 5th wheel oem puck system? Is there a ring that can be installed around the edges of the holes?

Hey Dean,

The only trim rings we currently offer for a puck system are for the Reese Elite # RP58458. There isn't a trim ring available that's specifically designed to fit the BedRug liner under it. There should be some factory trim rings covering the gap between the pucks and the bed that could try popping out and running the liner up to with a little bit of it under the trim ring to see if it'll still fit. Otherwise you'd like just have to cut the liner around the trim rings and just try to keep the cut as close as possible.

I found one person that did something like this with their Ford and they struggled to get the liner under the rings so it might be a fight trying to get them back in place with the extra thickness from the liner.

To pick out the correct liner for your Sierra we'll need to know your bed length, whether you have a bare bed or a drop-in or spray-on liner, and whether or not you have a multi-pro tailgate.

Hey Dean, how did things turn out with fitting the BedRug liner around the puck system on your GMC 3500? Your experience could point others toward the best way to handle those trim rings.

@JamesonC I very carefully felt and found the location of the puck caps and cut the bedrug the exact shape and location of the cap. I then used a marker on the underside of the cut out bedrug and drew an arrow on it facing forward so i would always know which way it should be oriented. I also placed an arrow on the puck cap top and bottom. Once that was done, I dry fit the cut bedrug back into place and dry fit it to confirm everything was correctly oriented and looked good. Once convinced i had everything correctly oriented so it was exactly the same as it was when i cut it (which the arrows help determine) i then smeared a thin layer of shoe goo around the plastic puck being careful to get to the edge but not enough to blow out; then as quickly as possible put the cut bedrug back into place making it perfectly flush (with clean hands push or lift up unit it basically hides the cut seam).... let it dry overnight. you want to be really careful to keep the orientation correct and not get confused on which cutout goes in which location. Not only did I place an arrow pointing forward on the bottom of the puck cover, but I also wrote D (driver side), P (passenger side), C (center) on the underside so I could always look at the cover with the carpet glued in place and know where it goes and what direction to face it. In cutting the carpet I also did not just cut a circle, I cut the carpet to go out on the tabs which makes it easier to get your fingers on the edge of the tab to remove or insert them. If you cut the bed rug in a circle, then the tab would be up under the bedrug making it harder to get a hold of. When you glue the cut bedrug to the plastic puck you want to do it installed so you can fine tune the placement of the bedrug so that it perfectly matches with the part you didn't cut as it dries... it will nearly hide itself

@Dean during the install, be sure you push the cut bedrug into the shoe goo so it gets good coverage and then lift up the edges as needed to make it look like it wasn't ever cut. If you do this properly the bedrug puck locations will nearly be hidden. After you let them dry overnight you can remove the puck covers by pushing your fingers through the seam at the tab locations (another reason to cut the bedrug with the tab shape) and depressing the plastic to get the tab to clear the metal truck bed. Do not pull on the bed rug or you'll separate it from the glue. When you install it you'll need to fine tune the edges to get everything hidden again. There are times i have to push around to find where the puck is because it blends in so well. You should install and remove the plastic pucks a few times so you are familiar with how best to get them in and out prior to glueing the carpet on them... that way you can see better and not damage the work you just did. the center on a GM truck is different than the sides.

Since I can't edit this, I want to change the comment about a thin layer of shoe goo. when you dry fit it and mash down, you'll feel how much distance you have... you are trying to make this so it looks flush with the bedrug, you only need to mash it down enough to get good contact. I found i patted it down enough to know I made good contact and then lifted it by pulling on the rug fibers until it looked perfect, then let it dry that way. You need a moderate about just not so much that you blow it out the edges... you don't want to accidently glue the plastic puck cover to the truck or your cut bedrug to the truck be or even the bedrug so be careful on the edges. You can always cut the glue if need be after it dries but its tough stuff so prevention would be best. Be sure you have clean hands; you don't want to get any adhesive on the topside. Also, i cut it with a razor blade starting at a location on the edge away from tabs. I did my best to cut from the underside as much as possible to leave all the fibers on top intact to help hide the seam. Go slow and visually check you work as you go. It will not be perfect which is why you need to mark where each cover goes so the cutout matches perfectly.
