Is Wheel of Westlake ST235/85R16 Steel or Alloy Wheel

Updated 09/13/2024 | Published 09/07/2024

Question:

Looking at TA26FR and WST48FR. WST48FR description indicates both steel and alloy wheel. Which is it? I thought steel wheels were only good for 80 PSI. The TA26FR is steel but the description says 110 psi. I need a tire and wheel combo for 110 psi. Your recommendations pls.

Hi Lance,

So the wheel on the Westlake ST235/85R16 Radial Tire w 16" Steel Mod Wheel # WST48FR is indeed a steel wheel and not alloy, and the 110 psi is correct. Steel wheels don't have a max psi of 80, the max psi is really determined by what the valve stem can handle, and of course the tires.

Then for your next question regarding recommendation between the two, while the Provider # TA26FR is solid I would absolutely go with the Westlake # WST48FR.

The 13/32" tread depth of the tire is the deepest you can get so longer-lasting tread, and the tire also has a 5-year warranty compared to the 2-year warranty of the Provider, which is nice reassurance of not only quality, but that you'll be taken care of should there be any type of issue.
