Identifying Underbed Puck System on 2012 Ford F-250

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/07/2024

Question:

I have a 2012 F250 with what appears to be a puck mount system attached to the frame rails. The measurements of the front holes is 41 inches while the back holes are 35 inches and there is 21 inches from front to rear. The front holes are outside the frame rail while the rear holes are inside the frame rails. I have been unable to find any measurements that come close to these and was told these rails could possibly be homemade. The under bed rails look to be commercially manufactured. There are not any markings anywhere on the rails that I could find. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Eric; the dimensions you have don't match any OEM puck system. Ford would have been 30" across and 13" front to back for the spacing. If it looks commercially manufactured it is possible it is some kind of proprietary underbed mount but it doesn't match anything I'm aware of. If that is the case, it is likely an outdated system that is no longer around. It could also be for something that isn't a 5th wheel hitch.

One way or another I would say it needs to be removed and replaced if you want to install a 5th wheel hitch in your 2012 F-250. If you want to use the Companion you looked at you can install the Custom Underbed Installation Kit for B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWGNRK1111-5W. This will allow you to use the # BWRVK3400-5W if you have a short bed or # BWRVK3500-5W for a long bed.

If you want to use a 5th wheel hitch that fits industry standard above bed rails you can install the # BWRVK2401 instead. These rails will work with the Patriot # BWRVK3270 or # BWRVK3255 along with any other 5th wheel hitch that fits industry standard rails.

Hey Eric, how did things go after checking those puck mounts on your F-250? Were you able to replace them with the B&W underbed kit so you could use the Companion hitch? Your update could make it easier for others sorting out similar rail setups.
