Troub Not Enough Room Behind 2017 BMW X1 Tail Light to Store Trailer Wiring Connectors

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/04/2024

Question:

Trying to install 118717 wiring harness on 2017 BMW x1. Appears the wires between the male connector that connects to the tail light and female connector that connects to the car’s wiring are too short to allow the hard harness parts to drop down far enough into the recess to allow me to reseat the taillight. Hard plastic parts prevent fully seating taillight assembly. Any help on what I am doing wrong or whether others have had this problem?

Hey Dan, thanks for reaching out about the T-One # 118717 wiring installation on your 2017 BMW X1!

I'm guessing you've tried to push the connectors to the side to make sure they are out of the way of the tail light?

I've installed a handful of these types of wiring harnesses before, and if there isn't enough wiring to drop the connectors down behind the body of the vehicle there is enough room directly behind the assembly to store the wiring.

If you can send me some photos I'd be more than happy to offer more assistance!

Hey Dan, how did things go with the T-One wiring harness on your BMW X1 after trying to move the connectors behind the tail light? Your update could make it easier for the next person running into the same tight fit.
