Could Vehicle Tire be Used on Drift Boat Trailer

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/29/2024

Question:

Our drift boat weighs less than 500 pounds loaded on the trailer. Trailer has 13” tires. What’s your opinion on putting car tires on, since weight isn’t an issue?

Hey Mark, so car tires can't ever really safely be recommended on a trailer even if the weight is lighter. I am sure it's been done countless times and it probably would be fine but trailer tires have a sidewall designed the vertical load and no steering of a trailer so I would recommend sticking with a trailer tire like the part # AM10210. It's probably also pretty hard to find a vehicle tire for a 13 inch wheel as well.

Hey Mark, how did things go with the trailer tires for your drift boat? Did you end up going with the 13-inch trailer tires that were recommended? Your experience could help others wondering about the same setup.
