Question:

Is there a way to drain the hot water tank for each trip without removing the heating rod each time? concerned about constantly twisting the wires around. Thanks

Hi Jim,

There is not a way to drain the hot water tank without removing the Hott Rod RV Water Heater Conversion Kit # DGR10VP. This installs in the drain opening and it is specified it must be removed, along with the reducer bushing (if used) when draining the tank.

Hey Jim, were you able to find a good way to manage draining your hot water tank with the Hott Rod kit in place? Knowing what worked for you could help others trying to handle the same setup.

@HeatherA Sadly, no... I ended up buying waterproof insulated quick disconnect clips (online somewhere, it's been so long ago) to disconnect the AC power to the Hot Rod. Then, just unscrew it. Otherwise, the wires get twisted. I use a LOT of Teflon Tape each time. It keeps the Rod from dripping water and makes it easier to remove it each time. Sorry, there doesn't seem to be a better solution. Cheers, and happy camping!
