Can A 145/80R12 Tires Replace 5.3 x 12 Tires

Updated 06/12/2024 | Published 06/05/2024

Question:

I have a 2000 Flagstaff pop-up camper currently with 5.3x12, 4 on 4 tires. Would these fit as a good D rated replacement? I noticed the diameter on these is slightly smaller than your comparable 5.3x12 4 lug tires. Does that matter much?

Hi Andi,

A 5.3R12 wheel would have an overall diameter of 21.9" and the Kenda 145/80R12 # AM35351DX would have a 21.13" overall diameter, giving you a .77" difference. This going smaller would slightly lower the trailer, but at .77" you probably couldn't even notice a difference.

What is important is to make sure that the weight capacity and speed rating of the tire will either match up or be better to ensure it's going to support the trailer. The speed and load rating can be found on the sidewall of the tire for you to confirm. The # AM35351DX has a load range D and speed rating M.
