Or can I just slide them into the pockets that are already on the top edge of my truck bed?

DeeZee recommends that you bolt the DeeZee Customizable Truck Bed Ladder Rack # DZ95053 to the bed of your truck when you install it otherwise equipment damage or serious bodily injury could occur. Also, it would void the warranty.
