Trailer 6-Pin Connector Needed to Match Motorcycle 6-Pin Connector

Published 03/29/2024

Question:

Hello. Not sure you can help but I have a 2001 Goldwing that has a square 6 pin connector and I just bought a 2006 Denray RS 2 trailer and it has a flat 4 pin connector lus the trailer has a power plug iron it for the cooler. Is there an adapter for this or would I have to redo the trailer working completely. Please let me know. Thanks

Hey Eric, thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you're needing the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit (Car and Trailer Ends) # 37995. I normally recommend changing out your connectors for something more standard, but this is the easiest way to make your motorcycle and trailer wiring compatible. Just be sure the connect the wiring by function as opposed to color and you'll be good to go!

Hi Jon thanks for getting back to me so quickly. That looks like what I have on the Goldwing but the trailer only has the flat 4 wire connector so there would be wires that aren’t used. What happened to them? The square adapter has 6 wires? Let me know. Also would the cooler plug still work as it is a powered plug. Thanks

@Eric It will depend on what functions are present on your motorcycle plug. Sometimes an extra function like the reverse lights are present on a tow vehicle and most trailers don't have that function so it won't be needed. If your motorcycle 6-Pin has the brake light separated out from the turn signals then you'll need a converter like the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 which gives you the 4-Way connector and it combines the brake and turn signals to make both the motorcycle and trailer wiring compatible.
