Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Open Ground Error Code
Published 03/26/2024 >
Question:
I am having problems with a Tekconsha p3 controller. I have 2 trailers and have problems with both. I have a double axle trailer that has been checked by a professional trailer company and been told there is nothing wrong with the brakes on it. I have also checked truck wiring and even replaced the connectors on both the truck and trailer. Now the problem. When the trailer is hooked up, it immediately shows open ground. When the brakes are applied, it turns green and shows brakes are applied, but it does not feel like it. the manual lever does not work at all. When I hook up to my single axle trailer, it shows a good connection until the brakes are applied, then it shows open ground. I have reset the controller to no avail. I am left with the possibility that my controller may have failed. Any thoughts on this problem! Thank you.

Hey Mark, normally what you described would indicate that the blue wire of the P3 part # 90195 that runs to the truck 7-way has an open ground that is shorting to something metal on the truck. Since the wiring was checked the first thing to try is a reset of the controller which is just unplugging and plugging it back in.
If that doesn't fix it then a new controller would be only solution.
