Issues When Lighting The Camco Olympian Wave 8 Catalytic Safety Heater
Updated 02/15/2024 | Published 02/14/2024 >
Question:
I have an olympian wave 8, and when I as starting it in the morning, I have a small puff of gas to show it is starting and then, if I hold in the knob a little longer, I get a huge puff that goes outside the grill. This is something new, that has just started happening. It is the way I have always started it, and it has never done it before, in three years of use. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your question, Ann. I will be honest, I am not completely sure what you mean by "puff of gas", but I can tell you with certainty that when it comes to the Camco Olympian Wave 8 Catalytic Safety Heater # CAM57351, random "puffs of gas" are not good. This could be due to a bad regulator, but there would really be no way for you to test this other than trying a new regulator. It could also be due to debris in the gas tube of the heater which has built up over time. Obstructions in the gas tube could cause all kind of weird things to happen so that would certainly explain the issue. In these cases, we suggest you take the unit to an RV tech and have them test the whole system. Out of an abundance of caution, we also have to suggest that you do not use the heater until you have had it looked at.
