Question:
Hello! I have a 2023 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XSE. I am looking to tow smaller trailers equipped with electric brakes. So, I need a 7-pin connector. I already have a CURT 4-pin connector installed. Can you send me recommended products please?

To go from your 4-pin connector to a 7-pin connector you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This will connect to the 4-pin connector you already have for your lights and will require you to run a wire back to the cab for the brake controller and one to the battery for power.
From there you'll need to install a brake controller to activate the trailer brakes. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR along with the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR. This brake controller comes with a small knob that can be mounted to the dash for a factory look. The wire harness will need to be wired in the following manner:
Black wire - 12v power with an in-line fuse # 331-CBK30-EB
Blue wire - trailer brake output
Red wire - cold side of the brake light switch
White wire - Ground
To find the cold side of the brake light switch you'll need to test the wires coming from the brake pedal with a hook & probe tester # PTW2993 for the wire that only receives power when the pedal is depressed. If you can't find the wire then you can install the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000 instead and use this as the signal.
