Question:
What is the max weight load of a set of 48inch Yakima crossbars mounted on their rail system? My application need not consider a specific vehicle or application, just the bars themselves.

The 48 inch Yakima crossbars, # Y00408, have a weight capacity of 165 pounds no matter which mounting system you are using. Different applications have different ratings though. It sounds like you are not using the system on a vehicle roof. Whatever you are using it for, if you can determine the capacity of the mounting surface that will be beneficial as you do not want to exceed it. Always go by the lowest rating.
