Will The Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25500 Operate With 6 Gauge Wiring?
Published 11/01/2023 >
Question:
Bought the Strongarm 1500 winch. I wired my truck with 6 gauge wire for my Fulton 2500 power trailor jack that i bought from you as well, same order. Only have a 19ft bass boat, pulling it about 2 feet to roller. Will 6 gauge wire work for such a light load and a short pull? Just received order couple weeks ago if you want to look at order. Also video on winch says to pull out switch after use. Do you keep it engaged to get to the roller, then pull switch out while it is engaged? I didnt see an on/off switch, only engage and freespool. Thanks

The Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25500 uses gauge 8 wire so your current gauge 6 wire being thicker should be able to power your winch without an issue. Be sure to not use both the winch and the Jack # F141401 at the same time to reduce the risk of damaging the wiring.
For using the winch with a boat trailer it is recommended to secure the boat onto the trailer with appropriate bow and transom tie down straps or chains. With the boat fully secured on the trailer, it is advisable to relieve the tension on the winch cable to avoid damage to the winch and trailer due to high shock loads encountered when traveling. Always disconnect the switch when the winching operation is complete. Never leave the switch connected to the winch when not in use. The switch they are referring to is the operation switch which some have on the side next to the free spool lever.
