Can Gen-Y Executive Replace Curt Turning Point Pin Box on Grand Design 260RD

Question:

I have a Grand Design 260RD currently with the Curt Turning Point pin box. The fifth wheel has a GVWR of 10,000. I doubt we'd ever load it up that much. The specs say the UVWR is 7,988 and the hitch weight is 1,224 but that is without batteries and LP and then "stuff". I could see us running around 9,200 - 9,500 overall with 1,400 on the hitch but that's a guess.

That's great information - I appreciate it!

The Gen-Y Executive needs at least 1,600 lbs tongue weight to be able to use the lightest option. When using a 5th wheel or gooseneck setup you want your tongue weight to be 20% of the weight of the loaded trailer so for 9,500 lbs you should have at least 1,900 lbs tongue weight. When looking at the Gen-Y formula they say to use 22% tongue weight to choose their system so that still puts you in the range of the lightest option, the Gen-Y Executive Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Boxes # GY98GR.

I've heard great things about the Gen-Y Executive and it would give you a simple connection as well as a lightweight solution since you'll only need to remove the hitch ball from your truck bed for a clean bed.

Hi Jon, Does Gen Y make a kingpin version that will replace the Turning Point? I have a Reflection 150 series 278BH with a pin weight of around 1700 LBS. Thanks

@BryanW They do! What you're looking for is the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert Turning Point - 21K - 3.5K TW # GY48GR.

@JonG Thanks but I didn’t want to go to a gooseneck as I have the B&W Companion and love the ease of hooking up. Is there something else that has shock absorbing ability?

@BryanW I apologize that I misread that part of your question. With that being said, I rechecked what's available for your Turning Point and the Gen-Y gooseneck adapter I mentioned above is the only replacement pin box that I know of so in order to use this you'll be swapping out the B&W Companion for the B&W Hitch Ball # BWGNXA2000 which you likely already have if your truck has the B&W gooseneck setup. If your truck came with a prep kit puck system and you're wanting to use the Gen-Y pin box just let me know what year/make/model truck you have and I can let you know what the correct gooseneck ball will be for this application.
