Electric winches can draw a lot of power so it would be best if they had a dedicated power source. There are several ways to wire up a trailer and I have included a how-to article for you to review to determine which method is best for you.

Since you want to pull cars/trucks onto your trailer, the rolling load actually helps to increase he capacity of the winch. Take a look at the other link provided on choosing an electric winch. You can see the second chart about midway down the page that a rolling load increase the winch capacity quite a bit.

But it is still better to go bigger than what you think you might need for a few reasons. Basically, the winch will not have to work as hard meaning it will last longer. Also, since it does not have to work as hard it can run a little longer than a winch that was maxed out.

The Superwinch Tiger Shark, # SW1595200 is a good option that is not all that expensive for its capacity, 9,500 pounds. I have linked a video review of this winch for you. Ultimately it depends on how heavy the load is going to be and that is going to vary amongst different vehicles. I have included a link to all of the electric winches we offer.
