Question:

I have a 2001 Buick Century Custom that I would like to set up to tow behind my 2001 Monaco Diplomat Diesel Pusher motorhome equipped with a 10000 hitch and exhaust brakes. The buick has an automatic transmission. I understand I would need a transmission cooler. What base plate, wiring kits, and tow bar would you recommend? To tow the vehicle, I understand that you put the automatic transmission in neutral. Do you then pull a fuse so that the battery is not drained when towing? How does that work with the buick? Thanks.

To flat tow your 2001 Buick Century Custom you will need the following parts:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - Blue Ox Alpha 2 Non-Binding Tow Bar item # BX7380

Base Plate Kit - Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # BX1509

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - item # RM-152-98146-7

Supplemental Braking System - Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System item # BLU37TR

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

I looked online and I was not able to find the procedures for flat towing your Buick Century. I recommend consulting your owners manual for the specific steps you will need to follow to safely flat tow your car. If you don't have to disconnect your battery then you will also need the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25. This keeps your battery from dying on your trip while it is powering the lights and braking system.
