Question:

The lock of my SportRack Vista XL cargo box got damaged, does it exist a replacement kit? If not, are there any alternatives?

The entire lock mechanism in the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box # SR7018 is not replaceable, but the internal lock cylinder itself can be replaced. A replacement lock and key set can be ordered using the number that appears on the lock face. Please refer to the linked photo that shows an example.

Once you know your lock number you can use the search feature on our site to locate the appropriate Thule replacement based on that lock code. For example, if your lock code is N062 you can use part # THLOCKN062. Note the key is sold separately.

Hi, how do you remove the lock cylinder on the SportRack Vista XL? I've seen some videos that you use a master key at 45deg open and pull out the cylinder. On the Vista XL the master key does not go in at 45 deg. It only goes in when in the locked position but the cylinder does not come out.

@PedroC the master key wouldn't work when it is locked, you have to insert the master key when it is in the unlocked position. If it worked in the locked position anyone with a master key could get into any of the locks.

@RobinH , I tried inserting the master key when its unlocked, but it does not go in. It only goes in and fully seats when it’s in the locked position, which like you mentioned it would not make sense to be able to remove the cylinder at this position. I noticed the pins inside the cylinder don’t retract fully when in the open position, so they don’t allow the master key to fully insert. That’s why I thought maybe for the vista XL the procedure is different somehow since the videos I saw were for a different model and wondered if there is a different procedure for the vista XL lock. Is there a video showing how to replace the cylinder on a vista XL model specifically? I got this unit used with a key that requires a lot of jiggling to turn thats I why I wanted to replace the cylinder so I might have a defective cylinder. Any recommendations on how to remove a defective cylinder or an alternate part for the whole lock mechanism?
