Fitting the Rhino-Rack Universal Load Assist on Factory Roof Rack with J-Style Kayak Carriers

Question:
Hello, Having a problem using this with the kayak j hook in place. It doesn’t fit. Are there any recommendations? The bar can’t get as close to the cross bar with the kayak carrier on. I have standard factory roof rails that fit the original brackets without the carrier.

There are a couple things that you can try for fitting the Rhino-Rack Universal Load Assist # RR-RUSL on your crossbars with the J-style carriers installed. The first would be to try some of the different clamp sizes, the load assist should have come with 6, using an alternate clamp may allow you to fit it on.
We have also had people in the past have to put the load assist on the opposite side of their carriers. Looking at your pictures and where the load assist is hitting the carrier clamp, this may be the most likely scenario for your set-up.
