Recommended Bike Carrier for an Enclosed Trailer Carrying Two-Bikes

Updated 05/16/2023 | Published 05/14/2023

Question:

I have an enclosed small trailer to haul bicycles around. I have a Thule hitch rack and it works great. I have been looking for a way to mount 2 bicycles in my trailer and the Thule Insta-gator Pro looks like it would work well. The only issue I see is that Id like to bike to sit next to the side wall to pass between them. The Insta-gator Pro has the retaining arm on the side which is great for one side but Id like to reverse it on the other so both retaining arms are on the side wall side of the trailer. It looks like you might be able to take the arm off and there would be room on the other side. Unfortunately I cant find any information that what Id like to do is possible.

I see what you're getting at, however the ratcheting arm that secures the bike to the Thule Insta-Gater Pro Truck Bed Bike Rack # TH93VR can not be flipped in the way you're wanting to do.

Realistically, the easiest option is going to be to use a fork mounted bike carrier like the The Claw Fork Mount Bike Carrier # S64700.

This bike carrier can carry up to 1-bike (per carrier), has a maximum capacity of 35-lbs, and will work with bikes that have a 9mm skewer.

With this rack being a fork mounted carrier, you can orient this any way you need and you are guaranteed to have enough room for both of your bikes.

Since you're wanting to use this inside your enclosed trailer, I'd recommend just sinking some small lag bolts through the screw holes to secure it to the floor.
