Troubleshooting Lights Not Working After Connector Installation on 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hi! I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, just bought it used and it has not towed in the past. I just installed a hitch and light connector from you all, both are great. The problem Im having is that the trailer light circuits are not energized. The trailer light wiring harness from fuse box to rear bumper was factory installed, and according to online discussions, Jeeps come with trailer lights toggled off in the vehicles computer system unless tow package is installed of course, and only dealers can turn it on. So I took it to the dealer, they turned on the trailer circuits and checked all fuses and relays are good. But still the circuits dont work. They determined its a bad TIPM, but only thru process of elimination. So I installed a new TIPM and lights still dont work. What else can I check? Thanks!

It looks like you installed the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket # HM40975 on your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm assuming you had the connector already at the back, and they needed to turn on the power to it like you said.

It sounds like a lot of things were checked already but I would check that factory connector you plugged into the # HM40975. Using a circuit tester like the # PTW2993, check to see if you have power at the connector. Also, go ahead and make sure there is no dirt or corrosion present since this has been under the vehicle for 10 years.

From there, check the wires right behind it and work your way back while inspecting for any shorts in the wiring. Basically you are looking for the point where the power stops to identify and repair as needed. If you aren't able to find anything I would go ahead and take it back to the dealer for them to look at since this is the factory tow package wiring.
