Question:
I need to purchase brakes for my 2006 Keystone Montana. My axles are only 6,000lb. Dexter Axles but can I bump up to these brakes? I think the bolt pattern is the same as what I currently have.

6k and 7k trailer drum brakes are the same size and bolt pattern so physically they are exact same and can interchange with each other. So yes, the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Assemblies part # 23-464-465 will work. However, they will be harder to setup than 6k axles. The difference between 6k and 7k brake assemblies is the strength of the magnet. This might seem like a positive thing...to have a stronger magnet but the 6k magnet will be plenty strong and going with a stronger one just makes it harder to find the sweet spot for your brake controller. It will be harder to find a good setting that will feel like it's powerful enough to stop trailer well without locking up brakes too easily.
Your absolute best solution would be the 6k version part # 23-105-106 which is exact same but with the properly rated magnet.
