Since I do not know what vehicle you have the first thing to do is check your owners manual (or with a local dealership) to confirm its roof weight bearing capacity. Every car or truck has a maximum weight rating for the roof which cannot be exceeded. It is important to know this since the weight of everything on the roof (the cargo basket, the spare tire carrier, and the spare tire itself) all together cannot exceed that rated capacity determined by the auto manufacturer.

This Thule cargo basket, part # TH859XT, weighs 29-lbs and the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier # Y07076 weighs 6-1/2-lbs, so before you load your spare tire your weight load is at 44-1/2-lbs. If your vehicle is fitted with an aftermarket roof rack then the weight of that also must be added in to the total roof load. Even though the Thule basket is rated to hold 150-lbs, the actual capacity will be determined by the vehicle roof weight rating.

Please note that the Thule basket requires that the roof rack crossbars on your vehicle be spaced between 20 inches and 37 inches apart when measured center-of-bar to center-of-bar. You can measure your crossbar spread to determine compatibility with the Thule basket.

The Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is intended for use on their own cargo baskets. My contact at Yakima was not able to confirm the fit on the Thule basket so I pulled a sample of the tire carrier and test-fit it on the Thule basket. Unfortunately the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier # Y07076 will not work on the Thule basket due to the spacing of the basket rungs; it could be possible to modify it to fit but this would require that you drill new mounting holes in the tire carrier.

The tire carrier will fit the Yakima LoadWarrior Roof Rack Cargo Basket, part # Y07070.
