Question:
I received the items Jon G recommended, TH56FE, and the bars are different lengths. 37inch and 41. Is this correct, and if so, what is the correct mounting position? Thanks

Expert Reply:
Yes, the 37-1/2" and 41" crossbar lengths are correct for the Thule WingBar Edge Crossbars # TH56FE on your 2023 BMW X5, along with the Feet # TH89SC and Fit Kit # TH186007.
According to the Thule instructions you want the 41" crossbar in the forwardmost position.
The reason the crossbars have different lengths is because they end in the feet which are positioned along the flush rails of your vehicle, which it looks like starts off farther apart at the front of your vehicle and slowly gets closer to together towards the back. This is pretty standard for this type of roof rack.
