Question:
I just purchased a 2014 Ford Explorer Sport and want to know what is required to flat tow it. It is equipped with the 3.5 Eco Boost engine and has the Adaptive Cruise Control Option. I see it wasnt a problem for 2013. Is that still true? I already have a Roadmaster Blackhawk Tow Bar Id like to use. What brackets would I need to order? Thank you

Before attempting to flat tow your vehicle, I would suggest you consult the owners manual or with Ford for any special procedures or prohibitions regarding flat towing your vehicle. I found flat towing procedures on page 292 of the owners manual.
For the 2014 Explorer Sport with the Eco Boost engine and adaptive cruise, you would want to use the Blue Ox # BX2632 base plate kit. An adapter like # RM-031 would be needed in order for the Blue Ox base plates to work with the Roadmaster Blackhawk Tow Bar you already have.
None of the Roadmaster base plate kits, including the # 4427-1A you referenced are compatible with your vehicle.
In addition to the towbar and base plates, you will also need safety cables like part # RM-643, if you do not already have them.
To wire your Explorer for flat towing, there are several options, see link. For a permanent installation, a diode kit like part # 154-792-118158 would be a good choice. For a less-expensive option with easier installation, the Roadmaster Magnetic Tow Lights, part # RM-2120 would work well.
Most states require that a flat towed vehicle be equipped with a supplemental braking system. The Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400 would provide a portable, easy-to use and install option.
