If I were to install a cover first and then decide to install a rack at a later date, would I have to remove the cover to install the rack?

I recommend installing the RetraxONE XR Hard Tonneau Cover # RTX62GR on your 2022 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2' bed. This cover has accessory T-Slots that will allow you to add different accessories to carry additional gear such as the Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack # Y01151-5855. You will not have to remove the tonneau just simply slide the rack onto the t-tracks when it is needed.
You will also be able to add crossbars using the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA180B-2 and Legs # RRRLT600 if you want to be able to carry additional items above your bed. This will allow you to use roof rack style mounts to secure your gear above your bed.
