Question:
do you know what color the reverse light is for a 2013 ford escape? also, does the reverse light circuitry run through the tail light assemblies? thanks.

On the 2013 Ford Escape, testing the wires to find the right one is the only way to know for sure if you have the correct wire since going by color is not always reliable.
Use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 if you do not already have one to test and find the correct wire. It looks like the reverse light wiring will go through the rear hatch. If you were to open the hatch you may be able to find the harness at the top that goes from the hatch into the vehicle. That is likely the easiest place to access the wire.
If you cannot access it there, then you will need to get the wire from the back of the reverse light housing.
