If I understand correctly, this unit is hard wired from monitor/mirror to the camera. Is there a disconnect? I have a tow-behind trailer

Yes, there is a disconnect built into the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System item # RVS-770718. The threaded connections will allow you to detach the camera from your truck when you are not towing.
The cable for the Rear View Safety Backup Camera System # RVS-770718 is 66 feet long and threaded on both ends. I have attached a picture below that will show you what the connectors ends look like.
