Can the Fulton F2 2K Trailer Winch Handle a 1,800 Pound Boat

Question:
Hello Etrailer team, I currently have a DL 1600# winch on our bunk style trailer. I`m looking to upgrade bc the handle is starting to slip/wear. Under most conditions and less incline ramps this winch did ok. but now that we have changed locations, the new ramp is very steep. The DL1600 struggles getting the boat to the bow roller on the last few feet. Trailer is in great condition with new bunks. Will the F2 single speed 2000# winch do the job easily? The boat weighs 1800lbs dry.

The gear ratio for Fulton F2 winch # FW20000301 is 5.1:1. The capacity of the winch at 2,000 pounds is enough to pull the 1,800 pound boat even in the worst conditions (those being a long winching distance, steep incline, wooden bunk are all of the above).
If you have roller bunks the ratio for winch capacity could increase to 2 to 1 or even 3 to 1 in some cases. That would mean that in certain conditions the winch can handle a boat up to 6,000 pounds. But for a steep incline and wooden/carpeted bunks a safe bet is 1 to 1. The winch can handle up to 2,000 pounds.
The reason it is hardest the last few feet is because a winches capacity decreases as more layers of the strap or cable are added to the drum. It is much less dramatic of a change though for a strap so going with a strap is a great idea.
