are rhino rack cross bars compatible with thule and yakima components?

As long as the crossbar spread is within the range of the Thule or Yakima accessory there will be no issues mounting it to Rhino-Rack crossbars. Most accessories fit round, square, aero, elliptical and factory crossbars.

For example, if you added the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack # RRVA137B-2, # RRRCH4, and # RRRCP45-BK to your 2017 Ford Explorer the # TH615 you looked at would fit the Vortex Aero Crossbars. You would need to make sure that the crossbar spread was 23-5/8" - 34-3/8" which is what the roof box requires. I highly doubt this would be an issue on your vehicle.

Another way to tell is by checking out the crossbar size and comparing it to the max listed crossbar dimensions for a given accessory. Again using the # TH615 the maximum crossbar dimensions are 3-5/16" wide x 1-1/2" tall. The Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars measure 3-1/8" wide x 1-3/16" tall.
